To many people there are few things more embarrassing than talking about bathroom difficulties.
This is especially true if the people you must talk to are your elderly parents – and the bathroom difficulties are theirs. Children, even adult children, often still have a stigma when it comes to anything to do with the bathroom. They have not forgotten about potty training and other issues that their parents dealt with and that they may feel uncomfortable about as they get older.
Fortunately there are ways you can handle this problem with tact, and one of the best choices is to make sure aging parents are educated about options for toilet aids. Keeping the subject taboo will not help anyone adjust to the changes that aging can bring. When elderly parents have trouble with mobility and cannot get to the bathroom or use the toilet well they also risk falling, this could lead to something much more serious and dangerous than a simple clean-up in the bathroom.
As people age their bodies change and some of the functionality that they enjoyed in their youth leaves them. They may begin to have wetting accidents. They may also have trouble simply getting to the bathroom and using the toilet due to mobility issues.
There are devices that can help them, but only if they know these bath aids for elderly are out there and are educated on how to use them. This is often where an adult child or a hired caregiver comes in. When you care for an elderly person, subjects that you would otherwise avoid often have to be discussed to help keep that person safe and provide them with as much functionality as possible. Over the years I have had the privilege of working with people with disabilities.
This is not an area that I was interested in getting into when I became a social worker, but it is the area that I have enjoyed the most. I was assigned to work on a medical assistance waiver program called community alternatives for disabled individuals.
The group of people that I was asked to specialize in was those that had traumatic brain injuries. I was sent to training to learn more about traumatic brain injuries and how individuals are affected.
The brain is a fascinating thing. Each person with an injury to the brain is affected differently based on which area of the brain is injured. The right side of the brain affects the functions of the left side of the body and the left side of the brain controls the right side. Read the rest of this entry

Carex Universal Bath Bench

Bought this item for my Mom after reading other reviews- (she has a smaller sized bathtub, and I didn't want an issue with "rust"). It fits well, and Mom loves it- it has been a great aid to her in bathing. It is solid, resonably priced, and arrived on time. I would definitely recommed the product, and the seller.

Reviewer: mic,
Great bath chair. After breaking my ankle I needed something to sit on while my ankle became full weight wearing. This stool is very sturdy and nicely made. It is a little bulky but it most of these stools are.
Are you ready for the hectic and chaotic holiday season? This annual event can come at you fast if you’re not paying attention. If you didn’t notice throughout past, the stores stock up on Christmas decorations, trees, and gifts rather early. Try before Thanksgiving. This always struck me as odd. Why in the world are they jumping to one holiday before a more current one has even passed? Businesses are weird like that. My guess is that they’re trying to make as much cash off the holiday season as they can.
Anyway, you know what all this Christmas talk means. Oodles of Christmas Decorating For The Home. How are you planning to deck out your house this year? It’s easy to notice that many neighbors go all out when it comes to Christmas decor for the home. I mean, they really get into the Christmas spirit. Do you actually think they are appreciating the birth of Christ of merely competing with their fellow neighbors? Hmm, one would have to wonder. Not me though. Although I do firmly believe in dazzling Christmas Decorating For The Home, I don’t care to compete with anyone.
That’s plain and simply not what the Christmas holidays are about. In my book they’re not even about giving gifts. They’re about family gatherings. This is that time of the year when all the friends and family get together to celebrate life, love, and just being a part of it all. Folks get way too wrapped up in gifts and Christmas decorating ideas for the home. They often tend to lose sight of what really matters. Okay, so I’m sounding a tad “Hallmark Special” here. Regardless, it’s prudent to remember that the holidays aren’t just about Christmas Decorating For The Home, and cold-hard cash. There is more to be appreciated.
I really should think of a few new ideas this year concerning Christmas decoration for the home. Although I’m not interested in competing with other families, I do want to express some Christmas cheer and spirit. It’s wonderful to step out on your lawn and stare up at a magnificently decorated home. I should know; I do it every year with my neighbor’s house. Hey, don’t forget to check out Christmas Decorating For The Home ideas online. Countless ideas are at your fingertips.
