To many people there are few things more embarrassing than talking about bathroom difficulties.
This is especially true if the people you must talk to are your elderly parents – and the bathroom difficulties are theirs. Children, even adult children, often still have a stigma when it comes to anything to do with the bathroom. They have not forgotten about potty training and other issues that their parents dealt with and that they may feel uncomfortable about as they get older.
Fortunately there are ways you can handle this problem with tact, and one of the best choices is to make sure aging parents are educated about options for toilet aids. Keeping the subject taboo will not help anyone adjust to the changes that aging can bring. When elderly parents have trouble with mobility and cannot get to the bathroom or use the toilet well they also risk falling, this could lead to something much more serious and dangerous than a simple clean-up in the bathroom.

Over the years I have had the privilege of working with people with disabilities.
This is not an area that I was interested in getting into when I became a social worker, but it is the area that I have enjoyed the most. I was assigned to work on a medical assistance waiver program called community alternatives for disabled individuals.
The group of people that I was asked to specialize in was those that had traumatic brain injuries. I was sent to training to learn more about traumatic brain injuries and how individuals are affected.
The brain is a fascinating thing. Each person with an injury to the brain is affected differently based on which area of the brain is injured. I needed a chair for a short time I had bandaging and casting for my foot. The chair is wonderfully made. I always felt secure in the shower and it was the perfect height to sit on from the side and swing my legs into the tub. I used a hand shower and it made my life a whole lot easier than sponge bathing for 3 weeks. I highly recommend this!

Bought this for myself as I'm in a cast for 2 months. The first one leg was broke. Called Amazon and they replaced the whole chair immediatly. This is a good sturdy bath chair. Great price for this chair. Thank You Amazon.

I had total knee replacement surgery in June. The thought of not bathing for weeks was unacceptable. After researching various benches, I chose the Carex Universal Bath Bench. It is wonderful!! It is a great size both width and height and is very comfortable to sit on. It may be a little too wide for the average tub. I have walk in showers, so this was not an issue.
Using the Carex bath bench together with a hand held shower head and wrapping my knee with "press & seal" food wrap, I was able to shower every day since being released from the hospital. Without the Carex bench, I would not have been able to stand long enough to take a good shower. I was not in pain while bathing and was comfortable sitting in the shower.
There are times when I just feel like showering sitting so I will continue to use the bench on and off even after I am completely healed. I highly recommend the Carex Universal Bath Bench for anyone who is looking for a great seat to aid in their bathing experience. It is very sturdy and is easy to put together.

I ordered this chain because I can no longer stand and shower due to arthritis and a herniated disc. I had been sitting on the edge of my tub which did not give me enough height. I needed a sturdy seat as I am a heavy person. My only concern was would the chair fit in my small apartment sized tub. I fully expected to have to have it sit half in half out. To my delight it fit inside the tub. My mother has one of the chairs with the aluminum legs and it never felt sturdy. I would be worried about a screw loosening. The the legs just snap in on this chair, no screws. I would recommend this to anyone no matter your weight. It doesn't wobble in the tub and you can relax.
